State DPH says outbreak of gastrointestinal illness tied to doughnut shop was norovirus FacebookTwitterEmail The state Department of Public Health said in a statement Wednesday that a recent “outbreak of gastrointestinal illness” tied to an Ellington doughnut shop was a result of norovirus. The virus which is “very contagious” can afflict individuals of any age with vomiting as well as diarrhea, according to the department. “When a norovirus outbreak involves multiple persons from different towns, as is the case with this outbreak, it is not uncommon to see additional cases of norovirus occur because of person-to-person transmission of the virus in the community,” the department said in a statement.
