Dover superintendent Tracy Krum reflects on her past four years before May retirement
York Dispatch
Superintendent Tracy Krum will retire May 1, four years to the day from when she started her tenure with the Dover Area School District.
Her replacement, Kelly Cartwright, started her job Monday as the district s assistant superintendent, giving her two months to learn the job alongside Krum before she takes over.
This is a stark contrast to how Krum took on the role in 2017.
Krum began her time at Dover as the assistant superintendent May 1, 2017. But shortly after her first day, the previous superintendent resigned, and the staff asked her to become the interim superintendent. She said she was shell-shocked by the request.

Washington Twp. parents vent about move to Northern school district
York Dispatch
Several Washington Township parents shared concerns over the municipality s transition to the Northern York County School District, nine years after township parents fought to secure the move.
In January, the state Supreme Court sided with a group of residents, the Washington Township Education Coalition, ending a yearslong battle over whether Washington Township students should remain in the Dover Area School District or attend Northern s schools. The coalition argued that Northern s district offered a better education with a lower tax rate.
On Tuesday, Northern York County officials talked to parents during a virtual community forum as one of the first steps of the transition process. Approximately 220 students are expected to transition to the district from the Dover Area School District effective July 1.

After a more than eight-year battle, Washington Township will secede from Dover Area School District (DASD) to Northern York County School District (NYCSD).
On Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court denied an appeal from DASD, and upheld the June 2020 Commonwealth Court ruling allowing the transfer Washington Township and about 220 students to NYCSD.
NYCSD released a statement on Wednesday saying in part ..In anticipation of this outcome, NYCSD has been in discussions with DASD and formed its own committee to discuss the mechanics and implications of the potential transfer. NYCSD administration is committed to working with DASD on a transition plan that is executed within the parameters of the Court’s decision and is in the best interest of the residents and students in both districts.
