Bill To Create Separate College District in Gillette Working Thru Legislature | Big Horn Mountain Radio Network

Posted On 0 likes 2 min A bill that would support the establishment of an independent community college district in Gillette is working its way through the 66 th Wyoming State Legislature. SF83 is being sponsored by State Senator Jeff Wasserberger out of Campbell County and if passed and signed by Governor Mark Gordon would create an avenue for Gillette College to “separate” from the Northern Wyoming Community College District. Residents of Campbell County would have the final say with regards to the creation of the new district and the tax levee it would be allowed to receive. The possible separation from the NWCCD has been a topic of concern for the last few years as Campbell County objects to having no representation on the NWCCD’s board of trustees.

Dual, concurrent enrollment courses open doors – Sheridan Media

Dual and concurrent courses are opening doors for high school students in Sheridan County School District 2. Mitch Craft, an assistant superintendent with the district, explained the benefits of the courses in a joint meeting of trustees with the school district and the Northern Wyoming Community College District Monday night. Craft said in the 2019-20 school year, 95 juniors and seniors at Sheridan High School and John C. Schiffer Collaborative School earned 550 college credits in dual enrollment, and over 319 students earned over 1,600 credits in concurrent enrollment. He said numbers for this year are projected, because the year isn’t yet complete, but so far there are just over 90 students in dual enrollment and just over 290 in concurrent.

Gillette College separation bill goes before Senate committee – Sheridan Media

A bill to create a separate Gillette College community college district will go before the Wyoming Senate Education Committee for consideration Wednesday. Sponsored by Campbell County’s Senator Jeff Wasserburger, Senate File 83 would separate Gillette College from the Northern Wyoming Community College District under which the college was formed in 1969. In a meeting of Northern Wyoming college district trustees last week, Dr. Walt Tribley, who’s president of the college district, said he had a concern with the measure as currently written. In a letter sent to several legislators late last week, Dr. Tribley asked that Sheridan College be given $3 million a year in state funds if a new Gillette community college district is established. He said that’s how much Sheridan College will lose if a separate Gillette College district is created, and urged lawmakers to make the allocation part of the bill now being considered.
