New measures to crackdown on livestock attacks will make a huge difference says North Wales Police Rural Crime manager
New measures to crack down on livestock worrying will make a huge difference in enabling police to investigate and reduce offences, the manager of North Wales Police rural crime team has said.
Livestock worrying is when a dog attacks or chases livestock on agricultural land or is at large in a field with sheep, which can result in significant injury or suffering and in the worst cases, death of the animals involved.
This also has devastating consequences for livestock keepers, causing personal distress as well as significant financial costs.
MEMBERS of Clocaenog Dog Club were interviewed for a National TV Show to raise awareness of responsible dog ownership. A film crew from BBC Countryfile spent the day in Clawddnewydd, just outside Ruthin, filming with the Clocaenog Dog Club. The aim of the filming was to help highlight the issue of keeping dogs on a lead in the countryside. Throughout North Wales, livestock worrying is a re-occurring problem which is dealt with on a regular basis by the North Wales Police Rural Crime Team. BBC Countryfile presenter Joe Crowley spoke to Angie Platt, Founder of the club and Head of Marketing at Denbighshire Leisure Ltd, about the issue of dogs around livestock in the area.

The witness, who was staying at Abbey Farm Caravan Park in October last year, said it was about 8.15pm when he saw the creature. We have had a reported possible sighting of a larger than usual cat crossing the A5 between Chirk & Llangollen in the early hours of this morning
