TOOELE Tooele announced Thursday the retirement of Ron Kirby, the city s police chief for the past 23 years, and the appointment of Adrian Day as the new police chief. Day, the assistant police chief under Kirby, will assume his new position Sunday. This appointment became official with the City Council s unanimous consent on Wednesday night. Day has served as a police officer with the Tooele City Police Department since 2001, and has held several positions during that time including assistant chief, captain, investigations lieutenant, patrol lieutenant, patrol sergeant, detective and patrol officer. Day is a graduate of Northwestern University s School of Police Staff and Command in 2020. He earned his bachelor s degree in sociology with an emphasis in criminology from the University of Utah in 2001. In addition, Day also graduated from the Utah Police Corps Academy in 2001.
