Brakes being out of adjustment is a common DOT citation. On an air brake system the slack adjuster is used to adjust the brakes. It takes up the slack is the stroke as the friction surfaces wear away. 89-Year-Old Colorado Truck Driver Pulls in Prestigious Award
Loveland, Colo. resident Dave Sheets has been a truck driver for over 25 years, and at 89 years old, he has no plans to stop.
The grandfather went viral on Wednesday (May 5) after the North Dakota Highway Patrol commended him on Facebook for his commitment to safety. His dedication not only earned him a Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance decal but also caught the eyes of thousands across the Internet.
While most wouldn t dream of working at his age, Sheets doesn t seem to mind especially because he s driving his own 2000 Peterbilt semi-truck, which his granddaughter Shawna described to us as immaculate.

Truck drivers and fleets have two months to prepare for the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) annual Operation Safe Driver Week, which is set for July 11-17.
CVSA said inspectors throughout North America will focus on speeding and unsafe driving, including distracted driving, making improper lane changes, failing to use a seat belt and driving while impaired.
“Data shows that traffic stops and interactions with law enforcement help reduce problematic driving behaviors,” CVSA President Sgt. John Samis of the Delaware State Police said in the release. “By making contact with drivers during Operation Safe Driver Week, law enforcement personnel aim to make our roadways safer by targeting high-risk driving behaviors.
