A swan that was rescued after having a sock pulled tightly over its head by pranksters has begun nesting following its ordeal.
The swan was found in Coulson Road, Lincoln, on 2 May, and would probably have starved to death or suffocated without help, police said.
However, a rescue charity said the swan and its partner were now both doing well and preparing for a new family.
The eggs are expected to hatch in about five weeks.
Dan Sidley, from the Yorkshire Swan and Wildlife Rescue Hospital which reported the initial incident, said: They are very much together, very much in love, and are now planning for a family.

A swan saved from a cruel and potentially fatal sock prank is now nesting with eight eggs.
The female bird was in the Catchwater Drain in the Coulson Road area of Lincoln when she was rescued on May 2.
A black sock had been pulled tightly over the bird’s head, but fortunately she survived and is now nesting in Lincoln city centre.

A former taxi driver from Lincoln swapped cabs for cones when he opened a new ice cream parlour in Saxilby in April.
Mark Fisk owns Waters Edge on Bridge street in Saxilby, which sells around 20 flavours of Blyton ice cream. There’s also an additional five that are vegan friendly and more additions coming in the future.
All the cakes at Waters Edge are vegan, and most are also gluten-free, while waffles, milkshakes and 200 Degrees Coffee are also available to buy in the shop. The cakes and ice cream flavours rotate every few days.

A 50-year-old man was left unconscious with a serious head injury after an alleged assault in Lincoln City Square.
Officers were alerted to the incident by the city council’s CCTV teams in Lincoln at 11.03pm on Saturday, May 9. The CCTV team had been monitoring a group of people prior to the assault.
Police attended the scene and provided help to the victim, who was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
