MediaTek Dimensity 900 supports 108MP primary camera and display with upto 120Hz refresh rate

MediaTek Dimensity 900 5G chipset has officially launched and aims to bring premium features to high-end smartphones. The Dimensity 900 follows the Dimensity 700 and Dimensity 800 series of processors and has been fabricated on a 6nm architecture process. The Dimensity 900 5G supports WiFi 6, 120Hz displays and a 108MP camera, features that are usually seen on premium flagship smartphones.
The MediaTek Dimensity 900 chipset has an octa-core CPU that has two Arm Cortex-A78 performance cores running at 2.4GHz and six power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores running at 2GHz. MediaTek has announced a new Dimensity 900 5G chipset, joining several other 5G-capable processors announced by the company. Earlier this year, MediaTek launched the Dimensity 1100 and the Dimensity 1200, which followed the launch of the Dimensity 1000 in November 2019.
Similar to the Dimensity 1100 and Dimensity 1200 launched this year, the Dimensity 900 chip is fabricated on TSMC’s 6nm process. It supports Wi-fi 6 connectivity, FHD+ 120Hz displays, and a 108MP main camera, opening up the possibility for some truly great mid-range devices.
“Dimensity 900 brings a suite of connectivity, display and 4K HDR visual enhancements to high-tier 5G smartphones and gives brands great design flexibility for their 5G portfolios,” said Dr. JC Hsu, Corporate VP and GM of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit. “The chipset’s support for 5G and Wi-Fi 6 ensures users get the most of out their devices with super-fast and reliable connectivity.”

MediaTek has finally revealed its first mmWave-compatible 5G modem. Though the technology is most popular here in the States (where it s also kinda useless), carriers continue to champion its incredible speeds while conveniently overlooking its many limitations. But soon, you ll be able to enjoy losing that super-fast connection when you cross the street on a MediaTek phone, too.
I poke fun, but the advantages of mmWave really are overstated, especially in this pandemic era. One of the few genuine benefits is in places like massive auditoriums or stadiums where low-band congestion can be an issue due to the sheer volume of phones. The added frequencies, limited range, and high directionality are outright bonuses there, even if it still won t help you much at home.
