A widespread internet outage affecting Spectrum customers Monday forced the Portland City Council to reschedule its virtual meeting to next week, putting off its reconsideration of creating a new historic district on Munjoy Hill.
The council’s livestream was interrupted less than an hour into the meeting, prompting the council to postpone the meeting until next Monday at 5 p.m.
“In an effort to ensure that everyone who wants to participate can, the meeting has been postponed to Monday, April 12 at 5 p.m.,” City Hall spokesperson Jessica Grondin said in a news release.
Pinellas launches sustainability and resiliency website
Pinellas County recently launched a new sustainability and resiliency website to share the current and upcoming sustainability and resiliency efforts and offer residents ideas for how they can make a difference in their community.
The site can be found at sustainability.pinellas.gov.
The launch of the website comes as the county begins developing its first comprehensive Sustainability and Resiliency Action Plan to address the unique geographical, environmental, social, economic, and climate challenges of Floridaâs most densely populated county.
Scheduled for completion in March 2022, the Sustainability and Resiliency Action Plan will guide Pinellas County governmental policies and programs, as well as external community services.

From time to time, preservationists are accused of only looking backward. Instead, I would argue we take the long view: forward into the future with an awareness of our past. The impulses of today in hindsight may be unwise choices and should be thoughtfully considered. One of the most compelling and widely acknowledged examples here in Portland is the demolition of Union Station for the construction of the Union Station Plaza strip mall.
ST. PETE BEACH â The city has been forced to suspend its memorial bench program after it became the victim of its own success and popularity.
Public Works Director Mike Clarke said over the years the program has been so successful that there are now 87 city-approved memorial benches on the beach, mostly in Pass-A-Grille.
âBench spacing on the sand has become quite crowded and, for that reason, the program has been suspended,â Clarke reported. âHowever, Public Works continues to receive requests for consideration. The emotional attachment families have with the beach and loved ones who have passed is very evident.â
During a March 23 commission meeting, City Manager Alex Rey told commissioners that âwhile the city is still getting requests for memorial benches, all the possible places on the beach where a bench can be placed has been saturated.â
