LAHORE: The Punjab government has prepared multiple proposals to effectively dispense and administer the 70,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses it has received from the federal authorities to the healthcare professionals of the public and private institutions and diagnostic centres across the province.
The first consignment of the coronavirus vaccine had reached Lahore on Monday and was stored at the warehouse of the provincial health department at Raiwind.
The government has constituted separate high-powered committees at the provincial, district and institutions levels for the vaccine management, storage and safe administration to the target population in order to ensure effective supervision and surveillance of the entire process.

Government has placed orders for procurement of over 60 crore syringes in various tranches. 30 crore frontline workers will be vaccinated in the first phase according to Health Minister and both approved vaccines - Covishield and Covaxin need to be administered in two doses. Vaccines will be transported from the manufacturer s plant to the primary vaccine stores through the air.
They will be further transported to state and then district vaccine stores in refrigerated vans. Vaccine carrier boxes will be used for transportation from district vaccine stores to primary health centres and then to Sub-Centre Session Site where they will be administered.
Coronavirus vaccine
India’s total number of COVID-19 cases are at 1,00,99,066, out of which 2,89,240 are active cases. The Central government is expected to have some big announcement related to the vaccine on December 25. India is likely to approve Oxford/AstraZeneca’s coronavirus vaccine for emergency use in the country by next week, after its local manufacturer submitted additional data sought by authorities. It could be the first country to give the nod to the British vaccine as the British regulators continue trials.
India wants to start immunizing its citizens next month and is also considering emergency use authorization applications for vaccines made by Pfizer Inc and Bharat Biotech. The government has said that it will release one of these vaccines to the public as soon as the clinical data provided is found satisfactory.
