After leading the nation in the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, in ensuring the state’s most vulnerable residents had a roof over their head, Governor JB Pritzker today announced that applications for the second round of rental assistance funding are now available to help Illinois residents who have experienced economic hardship due to the pandemic. The Illinois Rental Payment Program (ILRPP) will deploy multiple rounds of funding totaling $1.1 billion dollars to Illinois renters and landlords in an effort to prevent evictions. An additional $400 million in rental assistance will be provided by larger municipalities. The state will also be standing up a separate program to support homeowners with $400 million in mortgage assistance.

A federal assistance program that helps low-income families with their electricity bills will begin taking applications next month.
Applicants can apply once for the Energy Credit program from June 1 to June 30 from their county’s nonprofit program working with LIHEAP, or the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. We process all of the applications, we submit it to the state, and the state will provide credit to each of the eligible households, said Cassi Yamashita, Director of Community Services for Maui Economic Opportunity. It varies from children in the household, their income criteria, what kind of housing structure you live in. Those kinds of things are put into consideration when determining the credit amount.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. The tens of thousands of Public Services Company of New Mexico customers with past-due balances should contact the utility as soon as possible to apply for financial aid or to get on a payment plan to avoid having electricity shut off, the company announced in a news release Wednesday.
The warning comes as a shutoff moratorium which has been in place since early in the pandemic in order to protect customers who have fallen behind on utility bills draws close to its end. The utility wrote that, following a vote by the New Mexico Regulation Commission to end the temporary protection measure, PNM customers could be facing shutoffs as soon as Aug. 12.
