Democrats Introduce Ban on Magazines Holding More Than 10 Rounds
15 Apr 2021
Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FL) are pushing legislation to ban the sale and possession of ammunition magazines holding more than ten rounds.
A press release on the legislation indicates it would also ban the importation and manufacture of said magazines and authorize “a buyback program for high capacity magazines using Byrne JAG grants.”
Deutch tweeted about the push on Wednesday:
High-capacity magazines aren t used for sport or self-defense. They re used in mass shootings b/c they maximize human casualties.
I intro d the Keep Americans Safe Act w/ @RepDianaDeGette@repdinatitus@SenatorMenendez to ban high-capacity magazines & save lives.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she wants to create a commission to investigate how the protests in Washington on Jan. 6 turned into a insurrectionist mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol.
Pelosi, like a lot of political figures these days, is a polarizing figure, but her call for a commission should be a unifying moment. It probably wonât be, but it should be â although Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., also has called for such a commission, so maybe thereâs a rare moment of agreement here.
Pelosiâs model is the commission that investigated the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. That commissionâs work was widely (but not universally) praised and its 567-page report became a surprise bestseller.
