Some people get a little nervous when they see a snake or worry about getting warts from a frog. Wildlife biologists work with snakes and frogs all the time, however, and say they are important contributors to our ecosystems keeping critters in check.
Jim Freganaro, wildlife biologist with the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, and Sheldon Owen, Ph.D., WVU extension wildlife specialist, will be presenting a fascinating look at some of West Virginia’s non-game wildlife during the 2021 Virtual Mineral County STEM Festival on Saturday, March 13.

MAN â The 49th anniversary of the Buffalo Creek flood â which left thousands homeless and 125 dead on Feb. 26, 1972 â was remembered Friday at the Buffalo Creek Memorial Library in South Man, as well as a wreath laying by Gov. Jim Justice.
The governor was visiting the area Friday morning to kick off the spring trout stocking season. At the roadside park near Kistler, he was accompanied by West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Director Steve McDaniel, West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection Cabinet Secretary Harold Ward and several members of the Buffalo Creek Watershed Association.
Other local leaders were also present, including the three members of the Logan County Commission, Man Mayor Jim Blevins and Chapmanville Mayor Joel McNeely.
