Rogue trader convicted of roof replacement scam against elderly resident

House front A ROGUE TRADER who attempted to scam an elderly resident out of over £30,000 has been convicted after a successful prosecution last Friday. Kevin Patrick Dunphy of Guildford Road, Woking, pleaded guilty on behalf of himself and his company, The Roofing Firm, at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Friday, April 9. Charges against Mr Dunphy included engaging in a misleading commercial practice in breach of the Consumer Protection Act 2008. Mr Dunphy was ordered to pay costs totalling £6,490, including a £3,550 fine, and a victim surcharge of £190, to be paid in monthly instalments. Mr Dunphy was also disqualified from being a company director for two years, commencing on April 30.

Dariusz Pipcyznski sold cars via Facebook and Gumtree using false identities and without declaring that he was a valid trader, leaving customers unaware of their rights to a repair or refund. Following an investigation by Milton Keynes Trading Standards Pipcyznski pleaded guilty to the offences under the Fraud Act 2006 at Aylesbury Crown Court on February 23. And this week the authority confirmed that he had been handed a 17-month prison sentence, suspended over two years, along with an order to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.

Shop owner ordered to pay over £1,100 after child bought loose cigarettes

Bradford Magistrates Court A SHOP owner has been ordered to pay over £1,100 after a 15 year old girl was sold loose cigarettes during a test purchase. Mariwan Tofiq Mustafa appeared at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates Court on Tuesday, pleading guilty to charges of selling cigarettes to a minor and selling loose cigarettes. On August 31 2019 Trading Standards sent the 15-year-old into Piotr I Pawel on Duckworth Lane as part of a test purchase. A Trading Standards officer entered the store shortly after. The officer watched as the girl was sold two loose cigarettes at £1 each. The sale of single cigarettes is illegal regardless of the age of the purchaser.
