Leicester police shooting happens as man drives SUV into station

Updated: 5:51 PM EDT May 9, 2021 A man is dead after he drove a vehicle into the front of the Leicester Police Station, rammed the doors and later pointed what appeared to be a firearm at responding officers, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr.Early says the man, who appeared to be in his early 20s, crashed into the front of the station with an SUV at 6:13 a.m. Sunday and then repeatedly drove into the front doors until he gained entry into the building.Leicester police Chief Kenneth Antanavica says the front doors to the police station are made of steel and both open outward. He says the man drove his SUV up the handicap accessible ramp to the front doors and repeatedly rammed the doors until almost his entire vehicle was in the front lobby.A dispatcher with the Worcester Emergency Communication Center saw the incident happening in real time on surveillance video. Newborn left unattended at Clinton Hospital; under investigation

CLINTON - Law Enforcement is investigating after a newborn was apparently abandoned outside Clinton Hospital earlier this week. On Monday, April 19, between 2 and 3 a.m., a newborn baby was left unattended in the parking lot at Clinton Hospital and found by staff, according to police reports. Clinton police Lt. Brian Coyne said, from the most recent reports, the baby is doing fine, health-wise. Baby Safe Haven, Department of Children and Families and the Worcester County District Attorney s Office were all notified.  The baby could have been legally left at the hospital under the state s Safe Haven Act, but the person who left the baby did not make any notification to anyone at the hospital or leave the baby with an appropriate person, which the law states, Coyne said. Luckily, someone from inside the hospital found the baby when they did and the baby was brought inside to be cared for.

At 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, police received a call from a man claiming that he was carrying a rifle and a bomb, and threatening to detonnote the device, according to District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.  The Worcester police SWAT team and the negotiating team were dispatched to Grafton Street, where they set up a perimeter closing it to traffic. Police started a long attempt to de-escalate  the situation, negotiating with Gouvonvong, who was heavily armed with an assault rifle, body armor, backpack and an explosive device, according to Early.
