THERE have been no new coronavirus related deaths recorded across Worcestershire s hospitals for a third day in a row. The latest figures, announced by the NHS today (December 28), show no new coronavirus related deaths in county hospitals. The total number of deaths at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS trust remains at 417, with the number of deaths in the Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust remaining at 39. In total, there have been 456 Covid-19 deaths in county hospitals. In all settings, including hospitals, hospices and at home, there have been at least 706 Covid-19 related deaths in the county. In England, a further 318 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 48,860.

The Acute Hospitals Trust covers Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Evesham Community Hospital as well as the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch and Kidderminster Hospital.
Heather Lloyd will join the British Thoracic Society’s Pleural procedure clinical statement group. The group provides clinical staff from across the country with the opportunity to champion excellence in the diagnosis and treatment of people with lung disease, whilst also influencing policy and practice to improve services offered across the UK. On her recent appointment Heather said: “My position here at Worcestershire Royal Hospital is an advanced respiratory nurse practitioner, specialising in pleural disease management. BROMSGROVE residents are being urged to act now to protect everyone and the NHS over Christmas as Covid-19 cases rise. Across Worcestershire, there were 945 new cases of Covid-19 last week, which is an increase of 37 per cent on the previous week. Meanwhile, pressure on NHS services are growing and are at the same levels seen earlier in the year at the start of the pandemic this is alongside usual winter pressures. Dr Kathryn Cobain, Director of Public Health for Worcestershire said: “We are seeing numbers of cases going up sharply in areas which is really concerning. “We know it’s hard and we all want to see our friends and wider families at this time of year, especially after a long time of being apart. However, the increase we are seeing in numbers brings with it an increase in risk.
