Feds award $22 6M to fight COVID-19 mental illness

Federal grant to NJ for COVID-19-related mental health services Human Services acting Commissioner Sarah Adelman announced Wednesday the Murphy administration has secured $22.6 million in federal funds to expand and support mental health services, especially in the wake of COVID-19. The money will go to enhancing crisis stabilization and community integration, with a goal of reducing visits to ERs and inpatient admissions, along with enhancing outreach and treatment that will increase access to community services. “Many of these programs serve people with persistent mental illnesses that were exasperated by COVID,” said Assistant Commissioner Valerie Mielke of the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS).

NJ expands program to get hospitals to prescribe fewer opioids

The New Jersey Department of Human Services is giving grant money to 12 hospitals to take part in the expansion of the Opioid Reduction Option Program aimed at reducing the amount of opioids given to patients.
