The Western Bay of Plenty District Council s $140,000 Community Matching Fund is open for applications.
Until May 28, the annual fund is eligible for not-for-profit community groups that are able to match the council s cash grant in volunteer hours, cash or in kind contributions.
The council s community team manager David Pearce said the fund was a valuable resource for those groups that stand out as self sufficient in their own right but who struggle to raise finance for bigger projects.

The local community has been able to have their say in important matters while still having fun altogether.
The Western Bay of Plenty District Council has recently held a series of Community Fun Days around the district to encourage people to give feedback on council s 2021-31 Long Term Plan Consultation Document.

Government ministers are expected to attend an upcoming meeting to appoint a new SmartGrowth chairman following the exit of new Tauranga City Council commissioner Bill Wasley. The SmartGrowth Leadership Group Committee later this month, the Three Waters issue, and a $2 million budget blow-out to fix a Waihi Beach creek were among items discussed at a Western Bay of Plenty District Council meeting yesterday.
Western Bay mayor Garry Webber told the meeting he will chair the April 22 SmartGrowth meeting for about five minutes until the new independent chairperson is appointed.

Voting is now open to decide who will fill the vacant Katikati-Waihi Beach Ward seat on Western Bay of Plenty District Council.
Ten candidates are vying for the one seat vacated by Christina Humphreys, who resigned in January.
Voting closes at noon on Friday, April 30 2021 with the successful candidate selected under the first-past-the-post electoral system.
Voting packs will be posted to electors of the Katikati-Waihi Beach Ward from today.

Voting documents can be returned by post or hand-delivered during normal business hours, to the Electoral Officer, Western Bay of Plenty District Council, no later than noon Friday, April 30 2021.

The Western Bay of Plenty District Council has cancelled this weekend s Dogs in Togs event due to a wet weather forecast.
The council s fifth annual event at Te Puke Memorial Pool was planned to make a splash this Saturday from 10am-2pm.
With the pool closed to the public after the summer season, Dogs in Togs gives Western Bay dogs an opportunity for a dip before the pool is drained.
