Pump The Love Blood Drive
The Lufkin Parks and Recreation Department is having a blood drive just in time for Valentine s Day. If you are celebrating Galentines Day, or just the regular old Valentine s day, it s a great way to give back. Valentines day could be perceived as kind of a narcissistic holiday, so lets fix that narrative.

What s in it for you? They have really got a good incentive for this one. You not only receive an awesome t-shirt, free snack (got to have that) but you also get free Covid-19 Antibody testing. That is a big one right there. I would love to know if I had at anytime gotten the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and already have anti-bodies.

Hospitals across the nation are currently facing a critical blood supply shortage.
Throughout the year, blood donation drives across the county were canceled due to the pandemic, forcing blood banks and hospitals to economize. Blood drives that managed to proceed as scheduled operated at reduced capacity and attracted fewer donors due to contagion fears.
At present, the demand for blood far exceeds its supply.
Blood components are used to treat cancer, surgery and trauma patients. The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is also accepting convalescent plasma from patients who have recovered from COVID-19.
