Father now charged with capital murder in death of 5-week-old Bessemer boy

Charges have been upgraded against a Jefferson County man in the death of his 5-week-old son.
Quinton Artez Arnold, 27, of Hueytown, is now charged with capital murder in the death of Kamari Whitt. Arnold was taken back into custody Tuesday by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force.
He was arrested in Troy and is being held in the Montgomery County Detention Center pending extradition to Jefferson County.
Arnold was initially charged with aggravated child abuse and booked into the Jefferson County Jail on Friday. He was released on $250,000 bond and then apparently fled to southern Alabama.
Bessemer 18-year-old charged in Hoover killing

A Bessemer teen has been charged in the fatal shooting of another teen in Hoover.
Hoover police on Monday announced the arrest of 18-year-old Kendall Patrick Langham. He is charged with capital murder in the slaying of 19-year-old Michael Shelley Jr. of Hoover.
The shooting happened just before 2 a.m. Friday at The Woods of Hoover apartment complex, said Lt. Keith Czeskleba. The complex is located on Galleria Woods Drive.
Lt. Keith Czeskleba said Hoover’s 911 Center received a call of a person shot in a vehicle outside of the 1200 building. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Shelly suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

UNITED STATES On Friday, January 22, the U.S. Marshall’s Office announced that 33 children from southern California were rescued from sex trafficking and one person has been arrested. According to a press release by FBI Los Angeles Public Affairs Specialist Laura Eimiller, the Operation Lost Angels initiative began on January 11.
Eight of the victims were “of the 33 children recovered, eight were being sexually exploited at the time of recovery,” FBI officials stated. Two were recovered multiple times during the operation while on the “track,” a common term used to describe a known location for commercial sex trafficking.
“It is not uncommon for victims who are rescued to return to commercial sex trafficking either voluntarily or by force, fraud, or coercion. This harmful cycle highlights the challenges victims face and those faced by law enforcement when attempting to keep victims from returning to an abusive situation. Victims may not self-identify

Bond was set at $1 million for a Dayton, Ohio man arrested last week in Alabama who was wanted in the November shooting death of his wife while their three children were home.
Tremayne Lee Burdine, 38, was arraigned Friday in Dayton Municipal Court for two counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault and one count of tampering with evidence in the Nov. 14, 2020, death of 30-year-old Tenisha Burdine.
Police were notified of the shooting after Tremayne Burdine dropped off his children at a relative’s home in Harrison Twp. The children were crying and said their father shot their mother, a woman said in a 911 call.
