Cassellholme prepares to accept hospital patients

Article content Cassellholme Home for the Aged has started making room to accept hospital patients, according to the long-term care home’s executive director. “I can tell you we are moving the pieces around in order to accommodate patients from the hospital. We already have eight new admissions scheduled and approximately another eight in the coming days and weeks,” he told The Nugget Wednesday. “Everyone needs to do their part.” The province announced hospitals will begin moving chronically ill hospital patients out of hospitals and into long-term care homes to free up space for COVID-19 patients. This move can be done without the consent of a patient or their substitute decision-makeras a result of an amendment to the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, provided a doctor agrees their medical needs can be met in that setting.
