Unique partnership will foster collaboration between UChicago, Army medical personnel
The University of Chicago Medicine will become the latest premier trauma training site for U.S. Army physicians, nurses and medics ahead of their deployments in a unique partnership that seeks to share knowledge and experience.
Through the Army Medicine Department (AMEDD) Military-Civilian Trauma Team Training (AMCT3) program, Army personnel serving on Forward Resuscitative Surgical Teams (FRSTs) will train at UChicago Medicine’s South Side trauma center. Together with their civilian counterparts, the experienced teams will provide critical care and trauma treatments to patients at the academic medical center located in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago.

CHICAGO (AP) A northern Illinois man was charged Monday in the death of a suburban Chicago police officer who was killed when struck by a vehicle while providing traffic control during a crash investigation.
Reckless homicide and felony driving under the influence charges were filed against Otis M. Pruitt, 27, of Oak Lawn. He was ordered held in lieu of $1 million bond.
Hometown police Lt. James Kouski of New Lenox was injured Saturday by a vehicle allegedly driven by Pruitt struck a squad car, which in turn struck the officer. Pruitt tried to run from the scene but was stopped by officers, officials said..

HOMETOWN, IL An Oak Lawn man has been charged with fatally striking a Hometown police officer who was directing traffic in the early morning hours of April 3 for an unrelated DUI crash, prosecutors said. Otis Pruitt, 27, was charged with reckless homicide. Bail was set at $1 million during a bond hearing Monday afternoon at the Bridgeview Courthouse.
Lt. James Kouski, 58, was a 34-year-veteran of the Hometown Police Department. Kouski was born and raised in Hometown, and lived at New Lenox at the time of his death. Kouski worked the night shift and was directing traffic away from a fallen light police around 3 a.m. Saturday for an unrelated DUI accident near 90th Street and Pulaski Road.
