Reactions Pause COVID-19 Vaccinations at Hospital

Reactions Pause COVID-19 Vaccinations at Hospital By Ralph Ellis December 21, 2020 Coronavirus vaccinations were temporarily put on hold at a suburban Chicago hospital after four health care workers there had allergic reactions. Four employees at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville had allergic reactions including tingling and an elevated heartrate shortly after being injected, Advocate Aurora Health said in a statement, according to WLS-TV. These four team members represent fewer than 0.15% of the approximately 3,000 who have so far received vaccinations across Advocate Aurora Health. At this time, we can share (that) three team members are home and doing well, and one is receiving additional treatment, Advocate Aurora Health said.

CDC Tracking Six Allergic Reactions to New COVID Vaccine

AP Photo/Morry Gash, Pool The CDC says that as of Saturday morning, there had been 272,000 doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine administered with six severe allergic reactions. They have changed their recommendations, cautioning those who have ever suffered an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients in the vaccine not to get it. But those with allergic reactions not related to vaccines or injectable medications can still be vaccinated. If you’re allergic to food, pets, or other non-vaccine related products, the CDC says the vaccine should be safe. U.S. vaccine recipients are supposed to hang around after their injections in case signs of an allergy appear. The CDC says all cases occurred within the recommended observation window and were promptly treated.
