Oklahoma is returning for a full refund its stockpile of hydroxychloroquine, a drug that was called a potential game changer at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic but is now considered a flop.
Under a deal announced Friday, the state will eventually get all its money back.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration in March 2020 had authorized emergency use of the drug to treat hospitalized patients with COVID-19. Health officials turned to Attorney General Mike Hunter for help returning the drug to the supplier, FFF Enterprises Inc., after the FDA revoked that authorization June 15.
The California-based pharmaceutical wholesaler agreed to the refund to avoid a possible lawsuit, according to the paperwork on the deal.
