PI solicitor turned wilful blind eye to suspicious RTA claims | News

By John Hyde2021-05-13T08:24:00+01:00 A solicitor who ignored red flags on dozens of suspicious personal injury claims has been fined £35,000 by a tribunal. The Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal found that Asghar Ali, director and owner of Bolton firm AA Solicitors Limited, failed to spot that multiple claims from the same source were ‘strikingly similar’ in nature and bore the hallmarks of fraud. Ali, a solicitor for 19 years, turned a ‘wilful blind eye’ to the obvious suspicious circumstances of each claim as they were rapidly advanced. RTA personal injury claims accounted for 24% of the firm’s turnover, and the business received legal costs of more than £37,000 from 40 cases where compensation was paid which were investigated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Ex-Gibson Dunn Dubai partner struck off for deliberately misleading London s High Court 13 May 2021 Peter Gray found to have acted dishonestly in ill-tempered and hard fought Djibouti litigation The High Court Shutterstock A former Gibson Dunn partner’s bid to ‘clear his name’ has failed after he was struck off for deliberately misleading London’s High Court. Peter Gray has been found by the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal to have consciously misled the court by failing to draw attention to an error in evidence that had a ‘profound’ impact on the outcome of a successful application for a freezing order. The controversy first arose in March 2015 when (then) Mr Justice Flaux found that Gray had deliberately misled him when applying for an order on behalf of his client, the Republic of Djibouti, to freeze the assets of a prominent citizen.
