As a counsellor, she works predominantly with women and children who have been the victims of domestic violence and the men who have perpetrated that violence. The priority in all the work we do is women and children s safety, Ms Darnborough said. [And it] gives men an opportunity to acknowledge their abuse and also the opportunity to look at the beliefs and attitudes that have led to them choosing to be abusive.

The latest Jobseeker increase is the single biggest update in the unemployment service since 1986, but many unemployed people are failing to see it as anything other than a disappointment in comparison to the COVID supplements of the past year. The increase, which is $25 a week, or approximately $3.50 a day, leaves those on Jobseeker well below the poverty line, and many people, advocates and politicians alike, are calling for a permanent increase to the service. The introduction of a banned drinkers register to Western Australia s Kimberley region means alcohol abusers will be unable to buy takeaway liquor across the state s entire North West.
Liquor outlets are hopeful the trial will see further restrictions on packaged sales held off but want to see the new measure scale-up quickly with only a handful of residents on the register to date.
