IPOH: A total of 79 people have been arrested in various operations conducted by the Northern Brigade General Operations Forces (GOF) from January to June.
Northern Brigade GOF deputy commander Mohd Noh Khamis said 64 are Malaysians and the rest are from Thailand and Myanmar.
“During this period, we had about 188 cases in five different operations. It is fewer than (the same period) last year, where we recorded 205 cases.
“The decrease in cases is probably due to the ongoing movement control order and the closing of borders to the public,” he told reporters at the Northern Brigade GOF meeting room here on Monday (July 5).

Rise of Arifin Zakaria
Arifin Zakaria retired as the Chief Justice in 2017 but under Muhyiddin Yassin s government, the ex-top judge is now increasingly in the public eye as he assumes key positions, proving himself as a trusted go-to figure for the prime minister.
Arifin was reportedly tipped for a third government appointment, this time as the potential replacement for Zeti Akhtar Aziz, who is leaving as the Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) chairperson.
Just last week, Putrajaya appointed Arifin as the advisory chair to the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC).
Muhyiddin also handpicked Arifin to lead the special committee advising the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the emergency.
