Grants available to assist with paying PECO utility bills

Many PECO customers facing financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic have a new resource to help pay their utility bills. The Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP), which was signed into law Feb. 5, helps to support Pennsylvania renters and families at risk of homelessness due to financial hardships caused by the pandemic. The grant funding can be applied to a customer’s electric and natural gas bill, and customers can apply to receive grant funding to cover all outstanding balances incurred during the pandemic. Tenants — and landlords on behalf of tenants — can apply for funding. For more information and to apply, visit the Department of Human Services Website.

Illinois American Water offers assistance program for those with past due bills

Tue, 04/06/2021 - 11:12am admin Illinois American Water is urging customers with a past due balance to access the company’s financial assistance program, H2O Help to Others.  The program, along with payment plans, is available to help prevent service interruption for nonpayment. Illinois American Water said in a news release that customers with a past due balance should call 800-422-2782 to avoid their service being shut off.  If customers aren’t currently experiencing a hardship, but their situation changes in the coming months, they should also call the utility immediately. “We understand it can be hard to get back on track once an account falls behind. If a customer is experiencing a financial hardship, they simply need to call us and let us know. They can also reach out to their local Salvation Army office directly for assistance by mentioning our H2O Help to Others program,” said Beth Matthews, vice president of operations.
