Highways England propose infilling of Stoke Road bridge

Winchester City Council s Burnett Lane in Kings Worthy

WINCHESTER City Council marked the completion of its latest housing scheme with an official opening by the Mayor and Steve Brine MP. Burnett Lane in Kings Worthy features 35 new affordable homes with a range of different housing options. These include affordable rent and shared ownership tenures. Drew Smith Ltd handed control of the site to the council at the end of June and the project was completed on time. Steve Brine MP said: “This is smashing continuation of the City Council’s New Homes Programme. They’re nice looking houses in a great setting but even better was to chat to some of the hopeful new owners and tenants who were just beaming with excitement at the prospect of a new home in their own community.

AGM of Watercress Way held outdoors at Alresford railway station

Such a pleasant evening and thanks to Watercress Line for permission. The outdoor annual meeting was the first time some of the new trustees met face to face with the founder members. The charity was also pleased to welcome the input of Bob Barnham (Amy’s duck table), Adam Maskill (local arboriculturist), Chris Cornell (railway historian) and Steve Morley (Watercress Line). During the talk preceding the official meeting in addition to the history of the development of The Watercress Line and The Watercress Way we learnt how the church yard was once a horse field, how a track went through the Old Goods Shed (now the railway shop!) as well as the links to the watercress which was loaded in the siding.

15 UK market towns you ll want to discover | Day trips

Ludlow, Shropshire As one of the country’s celebrated foodie hubs, Ludlow will become a battle zone for outdoor table slots now that lockdown has relaxed. In a region famed for its wealth of local produce though, even low-key venues pack a flavour into every dish. Opt for takeaway salad boxes or cook-at-home three-course-meal kits from The Green Cafe, grab a box of nibbles go from Cicchetti Bar Ludlow or fine fare from Harp Lane Deli, where ingredients such as Amalfi lemons, n’duja and cognac are used as commonly as salt and butter by most of us. Along with the medieval streets of black- and-white buildings, this town is particularly ogle-able thanks to the sight of Ludlow Castle (adult £8, child £3.50) rising above the River Teme in the centre. It’s just reopened for tours.
