You may not realize it but it has been almost a year since it became legal to operate an All-Terrain Vehicle or an Off-Road Vehicle on Vanderburgh County roads. Now before you go off to buy one - or take the one you already have out of the garage, there are some exceptions and rules.
According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff s office, on July 14, 2020, County Commissioners authorized the use of ATVs and ORVs on country roads outside the city limits of Evansville and outside the town limits of Darmstadt, although there are some exceptions and restrictions.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. An Evansville woman was sentenced to five years in prison Friday afternoon in connection with her husband s death by stabbing in 2019.
Judge Robert J. Pigman of Vanderburgh County Superior Court ordered Wendy Payne, 53, to serve five years with the Indiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served in the Vanderburgh County Jail, where she has been held without bond since her arrest in July 2019.
Payne was found guilty of reckless homicide in the stabbing death of Edward Payne, 60, after a jury trial in March. Payne faced a murder charge for his death; the jury found her guilty on the lesser charge of reckless homicide.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The Evansville Police Department and Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting more patrols of bus routes, starting on Monday, April 26.
EPD officials say patrol cars will follow buses to watch for dangerous driving near buses.
Funding from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute will pay overtime for officers who take part in the program.
Authorities said this blitz is aimed at keeping kids on buses safe from erratic driving.
