Dispatcher Emily Bentson received the call that night. I was new in the position of dispatch, and this the first big accident that I was on my own by myself. The 911 call came in and it was the driver of the [truck] and all I could hear was oh my God, hurry, recalls Bentson, a voluntary EMT. I m on the phone [and] you can t do anything but get everyone else going, so that s where it s hard for me.

(KEYC) Crews responded to a one-vehicle semi crash in Watonwan County Thursday afternoon. The crash happened just before 1:30 p.m. on Highway 60 near mile marker 75 in Fieldon Township. The Minnesota State Patrol says a Freightliner semi-truck was traveling eastbound on Highway 60 when it left the roadway and crashed into the ditch. The driver is 35-year-old Thomas Van-horsen from Sheldon, Iowa; he suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Madelia Hospital. State Patrol says Van-horsen was wearing a seat belt and no alcohol was involved.

State Patrol • Responded to a two-vehicle crash with non life-threatening injuries at 8:17 a.m. Feb. 17 on snow and ice on State Highway 60/County Road 5, Butterfield Township, Watonwan County. A 1999 Buick Century driven by Brady D. Portillo, 19, Ormsby, was southbound on County Road 5, crossed Highway 60 and collided with a 2003 Honda Civic driven by Laura J. Sandmeyer, 53, Windom, who was eastbound on Highway 60. Sandmeyer was transported to St. James Hospital. Portillo was not injured. Both drivers wore seat belts. The St. James Fire Department, Watonwan County Sheriff’s Office and Mountain Lake Ambulance assisted. New Ulm Police • Responded to a two-vehicle crash at 3rd South and Minnesota Street at 5:11 p.m. Feb. 16. A 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander driven by Fidencio Perez-Acosta, 50, Sleepy Eye, was westbound on 3rd South and struck a parked trailer on the 400 block of 3rd South. Court documents show new details about what happened Sunday morning. At 7:15 a.m. Sunday, emergency services were dispatched to Hunting Preserve Lane, where a shed fully engulfed in flames was discovered. The blaze was reported by the victim’s brother, Jefferey, who tried to enter the burning shed but was overcome by smoke and flames.
