A strong thunderstorm hit parts of Monroe and Wayne counties Wednesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.
Just before 2 p.m. the Weather Service issued an alert, warning that the pending storm will bring 40 mph winds and pea-sized hail.
Earlier in the day, forecasters said that there s a marginal chance that that Rochester will experience a severe storm with strong, damaging winds and large hail Wednesday afternoon and evening.
Shortly before noon, Weather Service Meteorologist Jon Hitchcock said that there s a better chance for parts of the Southern Tier and northwestern Pennsylvania to see the most severe storms.
