Today with Dr Kaye receives 2021 Regional Edward R Murrow Award

  The public radio show, hosted by Dr. Karsonya “Kaye” Wise Whitehead and produced by Justina Pollard, received the award for Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for “ Not Again!: Baltimore Uprising 2.0”.    The special broadcast, which aired May 30, 2020, documented what was happening in Baltimore, Maryland and across the nation, following the death of George Floyd.    It provided a space for residents to talk through their issues, reflect on the riots following the death of Freddie Gray and brainstorm ways to move forward as a country.    The Regional Murrow Award, the most prestigious in news, recognizes local and national stories that uphold the Radio Television Digital News Association code of ethics, demonstrate technical expertise and exemplify the importance and impact of journalism as a service to the community.

KHOU 11 honored with two Regional Edward R Murrow Awards

The prestigious award honors outstanding achievements in broadcast and digital journalism.   KHOU 11 was recognized by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) for ‘Breaking News’ and ‘Use of Sound’ Breaking News: Watson Grinding Explosion  In the early morning hours of January 24, 2020, a deadly explosion shook entire neighborhoods in northwest Harris County, damaging hundreds of buildings. KHOU 11 had covered the story from when it first broke through the investigation. Here is some of that coverage. Use of Sound: Coach Burns  Photographer/editor Kyle Porter and reporter Anastasiya Bolton profiled a women’s basketball coach in a high school outside of Houston. KFGO News nominated for national award for Fargo riot coverage

Fargo, ND, USA / 740 The FAN May 6, 2021 | 1:19 PM WASHINGTON (KFGO) – KFGO News has again been honored by the world’s largest professional broadcast news organization with a regional Edward R. Murrow Award, named after the legendary CBS News radio and television reporter. The Radio-Television Digital News Association has recognized KFGO News in the breaking news category for continuous coverage of the rioting in downtown Fargo last May. It came after a day of peaceful protests following the death of George Floyd. The entry will now be considered for a national Murrow award. “The regional RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Award recipients we announce today produced extraordinary journalism that brought clarity and context to 2020’s biggest news stories,” said RTDNA Chairwoman Andrea Stahlman. “The winning work demonstrates dedication, determination and a commitment to the highest ethical standards enshrined in RTDNA’s Code of Ethics.”
