Clarkson professor named a top volunteer with K-12 education service

Monday, February 15, 2021 - 12:45 pm POTSDAM For the second year in a row, Craig Merrett, assistant professor of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering at Clarkson University, has been recently recognized by Nepris as one of its Top Volunteers. Nepris is an educational service provider that connects K-12 classrooms in remote or underserved areas with industry professionals across the country. Merrett got involved with Nepris when he arrived at Clarkson in 2016. Merrett and the other top volunteers have collectively conducted 161 sessions in 2020, impacting thousands of kids. “I am delighted to be recognized as one of Nepris’ Top Volunteers again. Interacting with students across the country has been a lot of fun, and provides an opportunity to share my passion for aerospace engineering with K-12 students,” Merrett said.

Clarkson engineering professors receive $50,000 JetBlue Foundation Grant to create new course, laboratory

Sunday, December 20, 2020 - 4:59 pm POTSDAM Professors Marcias Martinez and Craig Merrett from the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering at Clarkson University have recently been awarded a $50,000 grant from JetBlue Foundation to develop a laboratory and undergraduate course called Aeronautical Composite Manufacturing. The course and lab will teach students the basic principles and fundamentals of composite design and manufacturing techniques.   Martinez says the course and lab will, “provide students with the combined hands-on practice and theoretical know-how sought out by the aeronautics, wind turbine, and automotive engineering industry.” As subject matter experts in aircraft materials and structures, Martinez and Merrett each bring their own particular skill sets to the course.
