Mari Petroleum Wins Bids for Four New Exploration Blocks
The Directorate General of Petroleum Concessions (DGPC) has provisionally awarded four new exploration blocks to the Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL).
The DGPC took this decision in the latest block bidding round after competitive bidding based on work units had been submitted by different exploration and production (E&P) companies.
The company announced on Wednesday that two of these blocks have been awarded to the company as the operator, while the other two have been awarded as a joint venture partner with other local companies.

The MPCL will hold 39 percent working interest as the operator, and the partner companies – Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL) and Spud Energy – will have 32 percent and 29 percent stakes respectively in Nareli Block in Balochistan.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz Tuesday said the federal cabinet had approved constitution of a commission of inquiry on the Broadsheet issue, under the chairmanship of Justice (retd) Azmat Saeed, to bring the truth before the nation.
Briefing the media about the federal cabinet decisions and replying to their questions, he said the commission was set up under the Commission of Inquiry Act 2017, instead of a committee, to investigate the Broadsheet case.
The minister said that besides the Broadsheet issue, Hudaibiya Sugar Mills scam and Surrey Palace of the PPP leaders would also be investigated in future. Pakistan has received a rather poor response in the second round of awarding exploration blocks for onshore exploration rights to oil and gas production companies as it received bids for 15 out of a total of 20 blocks.
Sources told The Express Tribune that the Director General Petroleum Concession (DGPC) - a wing of the Petroleum Division - sought bids for 20 exploration blocks across the country in a bid to attract investment in the energy sector and boost exploration activities to enhance oil and gas production.
