Norwalk plans to build a new park for hiking and other outdoor activities after purchasing 177 acres south of the city for $300,000. According to a Friday news release from the city s Parks and Recreation Department, the future park, which officials plan to name Serenity Woods, is located at the northwest corner of Elkhorn Street and Highway 28. The North River will run through the middle of the park, splitting it into two sections. Norwalk Parks and Recreation Director Robin Leaper said the city doesn t have a timeline for when the park might be open to the public because the city needs to work with the Natural Resource Conservation Service, an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture that manages the wetland conservation easement on the land.
