Phillipsburg council wants to know if meetings were caught up in alleged spying scheme

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic pushing its meetings to Zoom, Phillipsburg Town Council met at the Phillipsburg Housing Authority’s Heckman House.
The authority’s executive director, Paul Rummerfield, now faces charges of official misconduct and related counts after he allegedly installed cameras and microphones to spy on employees.
Council last week voted to have the town’s attorney, Rich Wenner, reach out to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office to see if any of its meetings either public or behind closed doors were caught in the alleged surveillance scheme.

Cameron Henderson, 21, along with a 13-year-old co-defendant, set up a drug transaction near Cottell Park with the intention of robbing the supplier the night of July 22, 2020, according to a news release put out by the Warren County Prosecutorâs Office.
Henderson fired shots into a moving vehicle that was occupied by six people, including two children, an 8-year-old and an 8-month-old.
One of the occupants of the vehicle was struck in the back of the head but survived.

The executive director of Phillipsburg’s public housing agency faces charges of official misconduct and other counts after he allegedly installed cameras and microphones to spy on employees.
The Warren County Prosecutor’s Office announced the charges were filed Friday against 68-year-old Paul Rummerfield, a former Phillipsburg mayor and current head of the Phillipsburg Housing Authority.
4 police officers treated for smoke after entering burning home to rescue trapped woman

Four police officers in Warren County were treated for smoke inhalation after entering a burning home Saturday in an attempt to rescue a woman trapped on the second floor, according to the police department.
Firefighters were able to get to the woman, who was taken by helicopter to a hospital, officials said.
The fire was reported just before 9 a.m. at 82 Youmans Ave. in Washington Borough, according to Sgt. Jerry Magyar of the Washington Township Police Department, which serves the borough.
“They (the officers) were met with heavy smoke and once the fire department got there, the four officers backed out of the house and then the borough fire department went in and extracted her,” Magyar said.
