Pair charged with murder over death of baby in Cheshire

A MAN and a woman have been charged with murder following the death of a six-month-old baby. The boy, named in court as Robert Ion, was found unresponsive at a property on Mersey Road in Widnes on the afternoon of Thursday, February 18. He was rushed to hospital but was later pronounced dead. Cheshire Police were informed and subsequently arrested 35-year-old Gabriela Ion and 28-year-old Mihai-Catalin Gulie. The pair have since been charged with murder and appeared before Warrington Magistrates Court today, Thursday.

Aaron Isherwood was handed a criminal behaviour order in September 2020, which banned him from entering any retail premises within the town centre. But he stole groceries worth up to £100 from the Iceland supermarket on Crosfield Street on Tuesday, February 9. Appearing before Warrington Magistrates Court on Saturday, February 13, he admitted breaching a CBO and theft and was handed a 16-week imprisonment suspended for a year. The 30-year-old, of Museum Street, was told to pay compensation of £80 and a £48 victim surcharge by magistrates.

Scott Naughton POLICE are appealing for information on the whereabouts of a wanted man. Scott Naughton, from Widnes, is wanted by Cheshire Police after he failed to attend Warrington Magistrates Court on Tuesday, January 12. The 32-year-old, of Leigh Avenue, was due to appear in court in order to face charges of failing to comply with supervision requirements following his release from prison, having been handed a 10-week stretch in 2019 for a series of thefts from industrial premises. Naughton, who also has links to Runcorn, is described as being white and 6ft in height with a proportionate build. He has dark brown hair and green eyes.

Colin Poole A SHOPLIFTER who stole nearly £200 of chocolate from a convenience store has been jailed. Colin Poole pinched £180 of chocolate bars from the Co-op on Hale Road in Widnes during two visits on Friday, January 29. The 39-year-old also took meat worth £101 from a shop on Fir Park the following day. He had been handed a criminal behaviour order by a court only days earlier, which banned the persistent thief from entering any Co-op store in the town. Poole, of no fixed address, admitted three counts of thefts and breaching a CBO at Warrington Magistrates Court on Monday, February 1, and was handed 24 weeks behind bars.

Second burglary reported on Rostherne Close after flooding

Flooding in Sankey Bridges last month BURGLARS have targeted another house which was left devastated by flooding from Storm Christoph. A break-in was reported at an address on Rostherne Close in Sankey Bridges at around 6.30am on Saturday, January 30. Members of the public reportedly caught the suspect red-handed, with police having arrested a 40-year-old man at the scene. Sebastian Sarota, of no fixed address, has since been charged with theft in relation to the incident. He is due to appear before Warrington Magistrates Court in order to face this charge later today, Monday. A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “At 6.30am on Saturday, January 30, police were called to reports of a burglary at an address on Rostherne Close.
