Chapelford woman admitted council tax fraud after claiming more than £5,000 in benefits

A Chapelford woman has admitted council tax fraud after claiming she was living alone but continued to share a house with her partner. Charlotte Wright, of Maine Gardens, made false representations to Warrington Borough Council and failed to disclose that her partner lived with her between 2013 and 2018. The fraudulent claims resulted in the 31-year-old defendant receiving council tax support up to £3,599 and single person discount up to £1,651. Wright appeared at Warrington Magistrates Court on March 24 and pleaded guilty before being sentenced on April 16. She was handed a 12-month community order, 20 rehabilitation days and 150 hours of unpaid work as well as being ordered to pay costs of £375 and a victim surcharge of £60.

TARGET: The Go Outdoors store in Warrington THREE thieves - including one from Bolton, have been jailed after nearly £2,000 of coats were stolen from a Cheshire store in one day. Kearsley’s Jonathan Hodson, and Anthony Howell and John Mannion, both from Manchester, were all caged at Warrington Magistrates Court on Saturday after the spate of shoplifting at Go Outdoors on Wilson Patten Street in Warrington. The previous day, Good Friday, 46-year-old Hodson pinched had £1,310 of Gortex jackets from the shop. When challenged, he was found to be in possession of a magnet which had been used in order to remove security tags from the goods.

Trading Standards and Cheshire Police discovered the haul at an address on Irwell Street in Widnes in October 2019. Pictures released by Halton Borough Council showed the explosive devices being stored within a fireplace at the property. Occupant Luke Moore was found guilty of three offences under Explosives Regulations and the Health and Safety at Work Act at Warrington Magistrates Court on Friday, April 9, in connection with the find.

A weapon was also recovered from a car which was parked outside the property. Two local men, aged 19 and 32, were arrested at the address in connection with the discovery. 19-year-old Kyle Arathoon, of Richmond Court, Ellesmere Port, has since been charged with possession of a weapon, possession of criminal property, possession with intent to supply class A drugs (cocaine) and possession with intent to supply class B drugs (cannabis).
