Subscriber only A WARWICK man who stabbed his friend s elderly dog while in a meth-induced rage has avoided jail over the shocking attack. Corey Michael Hogden was armed with a knife when he broke into his family friend s Warwick home on May 12 last year. The Warwick Magistrates Court heard the 34-year-old was hearing voices after using crystal meth the day before, and was fixated on finding his friend s 17-year-old dog. Police prosecutor Steve de Lissa said the Warwick man got inside the home and stabbed the elderly pet in the back, causing life-threatening muscle damage and bleeding. Hogden then threatened the dog s owner with the knife while screaming incoherently, before the other man chased him away with a metal bat.

A SURPRISE police raid landed a Southern Downs mum in court after it uncovered her multiple attempts to purchase drugs and her stash of drug utensils.
Police searched Maryanne Lee Banksâ home on August 24 last year, where they uncovered a mobile phone, bong, glass pipe, scissors, scales, and an electric grinder.
The Warwick Magistrates Court heard Banks admitted to police immediately that she used the bong and glass pipe to smoke marijuana and methamphetamines.
Police prosecutor Ken Wiggan said a further search of the mother-of-threeâs phone revealed messages and phone calls arranging to buy marijuana for herself on October 25, 2019 and April 22 last year.
Parker admitted taking the container and said he ate all of the cheese shortly after, before washing the container and putting it in his cupboard.
Lawyer Phil Crook told the court his client, who has brain damage and other health issues, took the food in a “spur of the moment act because he was hungry after using most of his money for household bills.
“He didn’t realise he’d left the fridge open but accepts responsibility for his actions, Mr Crook said.
Acting Magistrate Rob Turra accepted Parker was motivated by hunger.
“It is not the most sophisticated of offences to come before the court,” he said.

A SOUTHERN Downs man has blamed a combination of Xanax and booze for an âout of controlâ assault on first responders at the scene of a roaring house fire.
The house on Toowoomba-Karara Rd at Leyburn, where Luke Nathen Churchward was meant to be staying with friends, was set alight by a tipped-over candle at about 9.30pm on April 22.
The Warwick Magistrates Court heard the 48-year-old became âbelligerent and rudeâ towards emergency services as they arrived, even the members of the Leyburn RFS he considered friends.
Police prosecutor Ken Wiggan said the torrent of abuse prompted police to try to escort Churchward from the scene, but it escalatated the Leyburn manâs frenzy.
