Two people were injured in Florida after a lightning strike sent road debris through the windshield of their truck.
Lightning struck the 81 eastbound on Interstate 10 in Walton County just after 7:30am, sending chunk of road through the Ford pickup s windshield.
The projectiles smashed through the windshield and exited via the rear window, injuring the two passengers who were taken to hospital for treatment for cuts and bruises.
Walton County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Corey Dobridnia said the pair will be fine after receiving treatment in hospital.

WALTON COUNTY, FL Driving through severe weather in Florida may be inevitable for residents and visitors of the Sunshine State, but the experience nearly turned deadly for two people in a pickup truck Monday morning in the state s panhandle.
Lightning struck the highway on Interstate 10 near mile marker 81, sending a chunk of pavement through the Ford truck s front windshield and out the back, the Walton County Fire Rescue said on Twitter.

Two people were hospitalized after a lightning strike blasted a chunk of highway pavement through their truck s windshield while they travelled on I-10 Monday morning.
The Walton County Fire Rescue was dispatched to the scene just after 7:30 a.m. near the 81 eastbound marker of the interstate in the Florida Panhandle county.
The two only suffered minor lacerations from the shattered glass and “will be fine,” said Corey Dobridnia, the public affairs coordinator for the Walton County Sheriff s Office.
Photos of the vehicle posted on Twitter showed the shattered windshield and back window of the truck.
At no time was a section of I-10 closed due to this incident, Dobridnia said.

A lightning strike in Florida launched a chunk of highway pavement through a truck windshield and injured two people inside the vehicle on Monday morning, according to fire officials.
The Walton County Fire Rescue responded to the accident on Interstate 10 near DeFuniak Springs, news outlets reported. Photos shared by the department on social media showed the Ford pickup truck’s windshield and back window shattered.
Walton County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Corey Dobridnia told the Tallahassee Democrat that the two occupants of the vehicle suffered minor lacerations from the smashed glass and “will be fine.”
A study published last month by a Finland-based environmental monitoring company found that Oklahoma had narrowly overtaken Florida as the lightning capital of the U.S., news outlets reported. But Florida ranked No. 1 in cloud-to-ground strikes.
