As stand-alone COVID clinics wind down, PBMC, WCGH bring vaccination effort in-house MaineHealth is preparing to close its COVID-19 vaccination clinics in Belfast and Rockland and has begun directing patients who still need to be vaccinated to Pen Bay Medical Center (PBMC) and Waldo County General Hospital (WCGH). Vaccinators will be expecting you and will be ready to administer your vaccine, according to the hospitals, in a news release. If you have not made an appointment yet, you will have several options beginning June 1.

How it started…how it s going… and where to next

The late winter and spring of 2020 was a time we would rather forget:  A new virus causing widespread severe illness in faraway places.  There were many unknowns.  Once cases were identified in the US, the country battened down the hatches.  Then we began to see cases here in Maine, and a ‘surge’ that was especially devastating for many nursing home communities. Hospitals were very stressed, especially our larger centers.  But the Maine experience was better than almost anywhere else in the country.  Things cooled down in late spring.  Despite fears about what visitors would bring, Maine had a very successful summer COVID-wise.

AUGUSTA As incentives go, free beer is not a terrible one. As the strategy to administer COVID-19 inoculations in Maine shifts from mass vaccination sites to smaller clinics and pop-up locations, some organizations are getting creative in their choice of locations, which will involve ice cream shops, farmers markets and, well, beer. Cushnoc Brewing Co. is partnering with Waldo County General Hospital in the MaineHealth network for “Shot & a Beer” at the brewery’s Annex during which people will be able to receive the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
