Two major pharmacy and retail chains are expanding COVID vaccinations to include walk-ins without appointments as eligibility for the shots continues to expand.
Walmart announced on Tuesday that walk-in vaccinations are now available at all Walmart and Sam’s Club pharmacy locations in 49 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico. The locations include the company’s 50 pharmacies in Nevada. Walk-in vaccines will be available as supply allows, according to the company.
Walgreens also announced that it will start accepting walk-in vaccinations at select stores on May 5. Same-day COVID-19 vaccine appointments will be available starting on Wednesday at all Walgreens retail outlets nationwide as well.

The retailer announced Tuesday, May 4, that COVID-19 vaccines are being administered via walk-up and scheduled appointments through the New Mexico Department of Health at the 53 Walmart and Sam’s Club pharmacies in the state.
In addition, the company announced its launching a nationwide Get Out The Vaccine campaign to encourage more people to get vaccinated.
“Now that supply and eligibility have expanded, it’s even more important for us to reach underserved and vulnerable populations to ensure equitable distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine,” said Dr. Cheryl Pegus, executive vice president of health and wellness for Walmart, in a news release. “Widespread vaccination is the only way we will eventually end the pandemic and help our country reopen, and we don’t want anyone to get left behind as we enter this new chapter in our fight against COVID-19.”

All New Jersey residents ages 16 and older are eligible for the vaccine. Individuals ages 16 and 17 must schedule an appointment to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, which is the only vaccine in the United States approved for ages 16 and older. The Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are recommended for residents ages 18 and older.

Coronavirus vaccines are available across New Jersey even as the distribution of the single-shot Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine remains paused throughout the United States.
This means that the two-shot Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines are currently the only vaccines available to the public, and are replacing the Johnson & Johnson vaccine in all appointments for the foreseeable future.
