Aside from release date news, we also received a new gameplay reveal, showcasing early building stages, enemy encounters and how buildings upgrade as you progress through the ages. In summary – it looks like an Age of Empires game.
Age of Empires IV will include four ages and eight playable civilisations. So far, the civilisations revealed include the English, the Chinese, the Mongols and the Delhi Sultanate, all of which will progress through the four included ages – Medieval, Feudal, Castle and Imperial.

A special
Age of Empires-focused event is coming out of Microsoft soon, with the development teams behind the three remasters and the upcoming fourth entry today announcing the Age of Empires: Fan Preview event for April 10.
The highly anticipated
Age of Empires IV will finally receive another showing at this event. The Relic Entertainment-developed real-time strategy game last appeared in public in 2019 following its 2017 unveiling. The game is set in the medieval era, and it has been confirmed that gameplay styles of playable civilizations will be very different from each other.
Age of Empires IV was announced all the way back in 2017 and since then, we’ve seen very little of the game. That is changing next month, with Microsoft announcing a preview event, during which we’ll get a good look at Age of Empires IV gameplay.
The Age of Empires: Fan Preview event is going to take place on the 10th of April, following up on the XO19 reveal of Age of Empires IV with new gameplay footage. We can expect to see new civilisations, campaigns and more.
Age of Empires IV is being developed by Relic Entertainment, who previously worked on the Homeworld games, Company of Heroes and the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War series. Microsoft’s own first-party studio, World’s Edge, is assisting and overseeing the game’s development.
