Replay Video UP NEXT Kim Potter, the white police officer who shot and killed Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old Black man, during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, was charged Wednesday with second-degree manslaughter, authorities said. Potter, 48, was arrested at about 11:30 a.m. local time and was booked into the Hennepin County Jail, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said. Potter, a 26-year veteran of the Brooklyn Center Police Department, submitted her resignation on Tuesday following Sunday afternoon s fatal shooting. She posted bond and was released from jail Wednesday evening. Potter is scheduled to appear in court at 1:30 p.m. local time Thursday, according to jail records.

Potter, 48, was taken into custody around 11:30am local time Wednesday by Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) agents in St. Paul.
The veteran cop, 48, was booked into the Hennepin County Jail just after midday
The attorney s office said the state will vigorously prosecute this case
If convicted, Potter faces up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine

Brooklyn Center Mayor Mike Elliott said Tuesday afternoon that he s asking for the Minnesota Attorney General s Office to lead the prosecution in the death of 20-year-old Daunte Wright.
Elliott said he s asking Gov. Tim Walz to reassign the case to Attorney General Keith Ellison s office, to ensure transparency and continue building trust in our community.

Kim Potter, the Brooklyn Center, Minn., police officer who resigned after she fatally shot 20-year-old Daunte Wright, has been formally charged with second-degree manslaughter, the Washington County Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.
Potter was taken into custody around 11:30 a.m. local time Wednesday by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
She is being held without bail, according to online jail records.
“Certain occupations carry an immense responsibility and none more so than a sworn police officer,” Imran Ali, Washington County assistant criminal division chief and director of the Major Crime Unit, said in a statement.
