Police shoot armed Newport woman with less-than-lethal munitions

A standoff between police and an armed woman in Newport on Thursday resulted in the woman being shot with less-than-lethal ammunition.
The incident unfolded just after noon in the 2100 block of 3rd Avenue, with police receiving a report of a woman holding a handgun and standing outside a home.
The Washington County Sheriff s Office said deputies tried to communicate with the woman, but she continued to point the firearm in the direction of the deputies on scene.
Officers from Cottage Grove, Woodbury, and St. Paul Park attended the scene along with members of the Washington County SWAT team.
