Retired nurse volunteers as screener for COVID-19

WILSON | SPECIAL TO THE HERALD COURIER BRISTOL, Va. — During this stressful time of fear and anxiety caused by the pandemic, volunteers across the country are among the everyday heroes who are showing compassion and courage for the most vulnerable. Many of those volunteers are right here in our own communities. Meet Ann Jernigan, a volunteer at Southwest Virginia Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) in Bristol, Virginia, who is prepared to assist with upcoming COVID-19 vaccinations as a medical screener. As a screener, Jernigan will be the first medical individual to greet people when they arrive for their vaccines. After asking a series of questions, she will decide if the patients can go forward with the vaccines.

Washington Man Arrested for Felony Burglary, Violating Sex Offender Registration

A Washington man was arrested on multiple warrants Tuesday. Court records show that 50-year-old Christopher James Beardshear was arrested by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant for second-degree burglary, a class C felony, and fourth degree criminal mischief, a serious misdemeanor, as well as a warrant for sex offender registration violation, an aggravated misdemeanor. According to the criminal complaint, on December 2nd at about 12:18 p.m. Beardshear was reported to have allegedly refused to leave a residence in the 400 block of East Madison Street. The victim stated that Beardshear entered the residence through a broken window and pulled the victim’s hair while they were sleeping.
