Two of those scenes were massive pileups, and a 37-year-old woman died. (AP) Dozens of vehicles crashed in near whiteout conditions on a Washington County interstate, killing one person and seriously injuring six people, according to sheriff’s officials. At least 48 vehicles, including several semis, were involved in multiple crashes that closed I-41 in Washington County for hours on Wednesday as heavy snow moved through the region. The Wisconsin State Patrol said one of the crashes involved a fatality, but could not provide further details. Six people were taken to West Bend hospitals and another 26 people were treated at the scene, according to officials.

Woman killed in Washington County traffic pileup involving 80 vehicles

The Wisconsin State Patrol identified the fatal victim as a 37-year-old woman from Trenton, Tenn. Washington County Sheriff Martin Schulteis said 20 crashes involving about 100 cars unfolded along an 18-mile stretch of the Interstate shortly before noon Wednesday. As of Thursday morning, law enforcement released details on two specific crash scenes: one near Arthur Road and another near Cedar Creek Road, both located near Slinger. The Arthur Road scene involved about 30 cars, resulting in six people hospitalized and the death of the Tennessee woman, according to the State Patrol. The Cedar Creek scene involved 48 cars and another six people hospitalized with injuries, the Washington County Sheriff s Office said. Another 26 people were treated for injuries at the scene and about 50 stranded motorists had to be transported by Rite Way Bus Service Inc.
