In this year’s count on Jan. 27, there were 577 homeless people counted in Montgomery County, compared to 670 on Jan. 22, 2020, according to the report.
Seven of the nine jurisdictions had a decrease, with Loudoun County (55%) and the City of Alexandria (49%) at the top of the list.
The number of homeless people counted in 2021 increased in Prince George’s and Fairfax counties.
This year’s report also found that Montgomery County experienced the second-largest decrease in homeless people reported in four years of the nine jurisdictions. There were 317 fewer homeless people counted this year than in 2017 a decrease of 35%.
As East Coast states face questions about fuel supplies related to the Colonial Pipeline ransomware attack, the D.C. area is making new moves away from fossil fuels and toward all-electric vehicles.
Calling it a step toward a zero-emissions fleet, the pilot project involves four trash trucks, four Fairfax Connector busses, a box truck and electric charging stations. The exercise will help the county learn more about operating and maintaining such vehicles.
They join a few other local entities that are in the process of going all-electric.
Over in Montgomery County, Maryland, the school system is leading the nation with its plans to electrify the entire bus fleet by 2035.

WASHINGTON, DC The Democratic Governors Association invited D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser on Wednesday to join the organization as a member. The decision marks the first time a government official from D.C. has been allowed to join the group.
The announcement follows last month s vote in the U.S. House of Representatives to pass D.C. statehood for the second time in history. The measure is now held up in the Senate where Republicans and some Democrats still oppose D.C. statehood.
