Hazard Hill Fire burning near Mead prompts evacuations

Crews get upper hand on Hazard Hill Fire in north Spokane County Fire crews said on Monday morning evacuations have been lowered to a Level 2 for residents who live between Hazard Road, Austin and north to Ballard Road. Evacuations levels have been lowered for a fire burning off of Highway 395 near Mead, Washington, according to the Spokane County Fire District 4. Fire officials said the Hazard Hill Fire is burning an estimated 50-70 acres with smoke visible in the sky. It began burning in heavy timber and brush just before 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 25. 

Firefighters working to contain wildfire near Fairfield in Spokane Co

KXLY July 23, 2021 9:30 PM Courtesy of Spokane County Fire District 8 SPOKANE CO., Wash – The Washington Department of Natural Resources says firefighters are working to contain a wildfire that sparked around 5 p.m. Friday near Bradshaw Rd., just a few miles northeast of Fairfield. A public information officer said it’s burning approximately 40 acres and timber and trees are burning. The cause is still unknown. According to Spokane County Fire District 8, there are no evacuations in place. Several fire departments are out at the scene and air support was used to help fight the fire. As of this writing, the fire has not been contained yet.

Campers didn t expect DNR campground closures, some have nowhere to go

Time to change your plans if you’re heading out to the woods this weekend because quite bit of land in eastern Washington will be off limits, due to fire danger. Campers were pulling out of those DNR campgrounds today, but some don’t have anywhere else to go; they weren’t expecting the announcement. Washington Department of Natural Resources made the announcement Monday to close all of their lands in Eastern Washington, because of the fire risk. Many come to Dragoon Creek for an escape, but with smoke in the air, and dry conditions Chawn Baukman’s trip was one of many pulling out today.
